Finding Your Blogging Niche
Before you begin building your blog, you have to first start the work of finding your blogging niche. Finding the right niche is especially important if your blog is being built for the purpose of making money.
If your blog is a hobby or only a passion, then it really doesn't mater. But if you hope to make any money, a real income, then your niche that you blog about is pretty important.
Your best bet to be successful at bloging is to pick a subject to blog about which you are both passionate and knowledgeable. But passion and knowledge are not enough. In order to be successful at generating income, you should also carefully consider the following:
1. the direct competition within that niche
2. if money is being spent in that niche, and
3. the purpose of the blog
Isolating Your Interests
One of the first considerations for a new blogger is your personal interests. This is important because if you are passionate and knowledgeable about a particular subject, you will not only have an easy time coming up with ideas for new blog posts but you will also likely be highly successful within that topic.
Your topic or niche should be interesting to you.
And your niche HAS to be interesting to your readers.
Ultmate success with a blog is directly related to how your visitors sense your knowledge and senerity and your passion for the topic. They will not only find you from a link or from the search engines, but if they find your blog posts interesting and proving the content that they are looking for, people will bookmark your site and come back again and again. And those loyal readers become loyal customers.
The interests of the blogger may run the gamut from subjects which are widely popular to subjects which are of interest to only a small subset of the population. There will likely be interested readers regardless of the subject of the blog.
Show Me the Money
Although I am not going to necessarily discourage you from blogging about even the most obscure subjects, if this is to be a business and generate real income, you have to have an understanding of three things:
1. How much traffic exists in that niche?
2. How much passion or interest exists in that niche?
3. How much money is in that niche (is anyone making money?)
There is a great tool called Ad Words Analyzer, which will dig down deep and build you a huge list of profitable keywords with lots of traffic and little competition. Get it and use it!
If you are a blogger who is building a blog for income and not just trying to build a hobby blog, then to be successful, you have to have high blog traffic about a subject people are passion about and who spend money.
Therefore, you have to consider selecting a topic or niche which appeals to a larger audience. And an audience that spends money in that niche.
So remember these three things when chosing a niche: traffic, passion, money.

Evaluating the Competition In Your Niche
Once you have selected one or more topics or niches for a blog, it is time to begin evaluating the competition.
This is pretty simple and includes finding other blogs covering the same niche or subject matter. Just do a search in Google or Bing with the niche words followed by the word "blog". You will find lots and lots of blogs in your potential niche.
Based on this information you can make an informed decision about whether or not you feel capable of competing for blog traffic with the existing blogs.
Don't ignore or avoid a niche if it is crowded. If the niche is crowded with blogs, it is popular for a reason. And the ultimate reason is money. There is probably a lot of money trading hands. People buying. People selling. Go after those markets.
So if a niche is crowded ask yourself what subniche of that niche could you go after?
If a niche is popular, don't just avoid it. Dig into the niche and find a subniche which is relatively untapped.
The Purpose of the Blog
Another important consideration in selecting a topic or niche is the purpose of the blog.
Blogs can be created for a variety of reasons including financial compensation, personal use or to promote a cause. But we're in this for the money, right? We are looking to produce income, one blog at a time, right?
If this is a business, you should choose a niche which appeals to a large audience. Large audience means potentially more eyeballs on your blog. And more eyeballs means more wallets.
Summary
Finding your perfect blogging niche can be summarized in three words: traffic, passion, and money.
In our next training module, we will jump into the meat and potatoes, and look at Wordpress, and why it makes such an excellent blogging platform.
And you will also learn why I strongly don't recommend using Google's Blogspot.
