In this module I will show you how to setup a Wordpress blog on your own webhost with your own domain name.
There is a lot here, and I am going to just touch on the high points.
If you are a beginner and need step by step details, I recommend that you get Blogger's Paycheck. This is a great resource with screen shots that show every step on how to setup a Wordpress blog. Click here to download Blogger's Paycheck now.
Domain Name
First step is to get a domain name for your blog.
I personally recommend Namecheap.com. I know that a lot of marketers use Godaddy.com, but I perfer to use a registar that doesn't have to use buxom women just to sell domain names. You can use Godaddy.com if you want.
SEO Tip: Try to chose a domain name for your blog with the topic keyword as part of the name.
NameCheap.com has the same prices as GoDaddy, without the hype or commercials. I use NameCheap.com and so should you. Just my opinion.
Web Hosting
Second step is get your own webhost.
For hosting I only recommend Hostgator. Go for the Baby Gator hosting account. You could get the Hatchling account for a dollar less a month, but with the Hatchling you can only host a single domain or website.
With the Baby Gator account, you can add more domain names and websites as your business grows. For a buck more a month, it is a good investment.
And Hostgator will give you more storage and bandwidth then most people ever use. For less than $10 per month, you will get more server storage and bandwidth then you will ever need for a single website.
That is unless your blog gets really popular - then you will need to upgrade. And that will be a good problem!
Installing Wordpress Software
Third, you will need to install Wordpress on your webhost using Cpanel and Fantastico.
John Yeo's Blogger's Paycheck has detailed step by step instructions and screen shots on how to correctly install a Wordpress blog and how to properly configure the blog software. Installing a blog includes:
you will need to cleanup the default Wordpress installation
change Permalink settings
delete unwanted links from your blog to other websites
